The Making of 1/7 Kanu Uncho DVD Jacket Edition

  Day 1 (Pinning) > Day 2 (Test Fit) > Day 3 (Putty) > Day 4 (Priming) > Day 5 (Painting) > Day 6 (Touch-Up)

Disclaimer: The following are the in progress shots and methods that I took to get 1/7 Kanu Uncho DVD Jacket Edition garage kit completed. Note that this is my third garage kit and did lots of screw up here. Only use this as a reference at your own risk.

Day 5 (Painting)
The shots here shows how her face is painted.

Liquid mask is applied onto her eyes here as shown on the left photos. Note that Mr. Surfacer White 1000 is applied here to give the figure a smoother and whiter skin.

The photos below shows the layer of paint on her face. There are all together 4 layers of paint. I am using a slightly different approach from Rei Race Queen. Rei is painted from light to dark but I will like to try a dark to light approach here.

I am using a very basic concept here. Lower area or that are hidden is the shadow. Raised surface is the highlight. Lastly, I misted flesh again to area where shadow and highlight meets to blend the color.

First it is painted with flesh tone as base coat.

The shadow is applied on eyelids, back of her ears and the lower level of her neck. Notice that the contrast is too much here.

Highlight is applied on forehead and chin since it has a higher surface level. Lastly, I misted flesh tone to area where shadow and highlight meets.

Body coated with flesh tone.

Shadow is applied.

Raised surface applied with highlight.

Note that the spine is deeply shadowed as the crease is quite deep.

I have seen a lot of PVC figures put shadow tone on panty line but I am painting highlight here. I assume Kanu does not have the tendency to wear such a small panty. Somehow in this kit, she wear a size smaller then it should show whiter skin there. ^_^

Also note that since her breast is partially covered by her blouse, it should be painted with shadow. However, I theorize that she normally wear a bra, so I am painting it whiter there.

(Dear Ikkitoussen fans, please don't write in to correct me. I know none of the female characters wear a brassier. I am just practicing painting flesh tone here)

Same theory of light is applied here.

Her stocking and shoe are masked for painting.

It is extremely hard to hand brush white on a colored surface. I am using the help of masking tape to get the white band on her arm done. Mitsubishi Green is sprayed here.

Same method goes to her scarf.

The inner surface is painted to be safe.

I am going a bit wild on her hair here. I grabbed all the blue that I have to paint it. First layer is the base coat in Pythamine Cyanine Blue. Mid-tone is Blue follows by Sky Blue for highlight. Lastly, it is misted with Cobalt Blue to blend the colors.
