The Making of 1/8 Rain Mikamura

Stripping Paint
Her dress is top coated with clear. Clear is a bit tricky to use since we do not know its paint thickness. Here is an example of clear paint where the paint is too thick and cake up on the creases on her dress.

I tried to sand it but sanding clear paint does not goes well. Well, I have to the whole piece all over again. I poured myself a jar of ICI automotive lacquer paint thinner. Drop the resin part into it. The paint is melted immediately. In 5 minutes (with the help of toothbrush), I have a white resin ready for painting.

Final Assembly & Filling Gap
This kit comes with many small parts and precise glue points. I think it is messy to use epoxy glue here so I entirely rely on super glue for this kit. Super glue melts paint and might bleed all over the figure. The glue contact points have to be sanded until white resin is visible. Most contact points are small and deep and I am glad I have a rotary tool to get the sanding done.

Before I join up the upper and lower half of the body, I have to eliminate the gap line behind her back. I use Tamiya Putty mix with Nail Polish Remover to fill in the gaps and then sanded it smooth. The effected section is repainted.

The completed model can be found at 1/8 Rain Mikamura.
