The Making of 1/6 Ryofu Housen |
| Groundwork > Painting > Custom Base |
Disclaimer: The following are the work in progress shots and technique that I took to get 1/6 Ryoufu Housen resin kit built. Note that this is my trial by error method to build a resin kit and might not be the best way. Only use this as a reference at your own risk.

Materials I use for the base includes balsa wood, mosquito net and brass rods. These are all
el-cheapo materials that can be found in any hardware shop. The balsa wood is cut into the required length. |

Mosquito net is common in tropical country. It is plastic meaning it can be painted with lacquer paint. |

The base is temporary assemble and the figure is put onto it for testing the positioning. |

The wood base is then nailed. Balsa wood comes with wood line and basic putty is use to cover up those lines. It is then sanded smooth. Note that the wall has a smoother surface while the floor is rougher. This give some texture to the base. |

The netting is sprayed with silver while the base is sprayed with black and white. Some gradation is applied to the wall. |

The fence is then tied to the rod using twister wire. Oil wash is applied. First with black
and then Burnt Sienna for the rust effect. The wall is painted with oil (black and white only) for the rain mark effect. Balsa wood is soft so the linings on the floor is scribe with a compass. It is then wash with black and a little bit of Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre. |
