Comment
Max Factory is being known to produce high quality PVC figures. As of end 2007, Max is expanding its line again releasing small-scale action figures in direct competition against Revoltech Fraulien from Kaiyodo. I cannot help but to compare this Figma figure against Fraulien.

This Max Factory "Figma" figure is impressive and does have certain advantage over Fraulien.

Firstly, it is the accessories. It is simply overwhelming by providing many accessories that prolong the figure play value. Figma does not just giving you the basic accessories but provide something more. A point to the fact, this Figma is generous enough to provide 8 extra hands, a metal chair, 2 books, a hair fringe with specs attached and an extra pair of shoes. When all these accessories combined, one can easily replicate Yuki's signatory poses as seen in the anime. This brings quite a lot of play satisfaction among her anime fans.

Secondly is it joint system. Max's Figma comes with very durable joints. This means the joints does not fall out like how Fraulien did. This is gives a solid feel comparing to the flimsy Revoltech. While this Figma's joint system does not look as natural as Fraulien, sometimes downright revealing but my preference still goes to this Figma figure.

Thirdly, the paint job is superior over the Fraulien series. While there is nothing wrong with Fraulien's paint job, this Figma did make an extra step ahead that is providing shading on a 13cm figure similar to its much larger scale PVC statue figure.
Although the paint shading is only applied to the shoes and hair, this is a definitely a good start towards a perfect PVC-like small-scale action figure.

In my opinion, articulations-wise both have its strong points and somewhat evenly match. The joint design is different thus, it is just natural to have a different range of allowable motion on both series. On aesthetic, it is a very hard decision to choose between the 2 series. Some will agree that Fraulien has a more pleasing joints but then do not to overlook the knee joint on this Figma slightly better than the "cut out" design of Fraulien's knee. I think this is a tie over here.

The last point that I will like to mention is that this Figma provides a display stand that works. Unlike Fraulien that comes with a flimsy stand, this Figma is providing one that is solid and practical. It comes with 3 articulations and strong enough to display the figure either in an elevated position or on a level ground. The downside is that the stand requires Max Factory to punch a hole to the back of the figure but I think this is a very small price to pay.

In conclusion, this figure might not come with the best natural looking joint but this is not by far off. Other than that, this Figma figure is superior in any other aspect. Although this is priced slightly higher, the amount of accessories provided still makes this a value buy. Highly recommended.
