Story
Genshiken is based on a popular 4-panel comic about the
Japanese otaku lifestyle, this manga follows
Sasahara Kanji as he dives face first into a world
of anime, manga, video games, pornographic
doujinshi, and the like. This is an anime for
hardcore fans, comes with very complicated
references that will test your knowledge of all
things otaku.
It began with Sasahara-kun, a freshman, looking for a club to join and end-up in Genshiken, short for “Gendai Shikaku Bunka Kenkyuukai”. It literally translates as “Modern Visual Culture Research Society”. The seriously named club is actuality nothing more than a clubroom for a bunch of loser to loiter, playing video games, reading manga, discuss about anime etc.
The characters consist of a few of down to earth people where most of them portrayed as a commoner plus loser plus an otaku. The only usual anime-like character that seen in this only Kohsaka Makoto (an otaku who do not look like an otaku) and Kasukabe Saki (Kohsaka’s childhood sweetheart and one who ironically dislike otaku). The rest are the usual common-people type of characters such as Madarame Harunobu (a hardcore otaku), Kugayama Mitsunori (a stuttering big size otaku) and Tanaka Souichiro (a cosplay and plamo fanatic).
Kasukabe Saki is definitely the center of attention among the club members. Since she is a non-otaku member and seeing her going thru the pain with that bunch is definitely the main ingredient in keeping things interesting. Furthermore, her many-failed effort to be an otaku is definitely hilarious.
Question: If you have to make a choice between your girlfriend and anime, what will you choose?
For whom chooses the later, welcome to the world of Genshiken!

Comment
This is a 1/8 scale and sweet PVC figure of Kasukabe Saki,
dressed up for cosplaying the main character of Kujibiki
Unbalance, the anime within Genshiken itself.
The package includes a metal chair (made of pvc and require some assembly) and a "Kujibiki Unbalance" helmet.
This product is release by Good Smile Company, a member of the group of PVC figures companies like Max Factory and Alter. I am expecting a high quality release from them and I am not disappointed.
The PVC figure is beautifully painted with very small visible details. For example, there is the weathered look on the helmet and the tiny logo on the helmet. There are no paint run spotted on the figure. Most parts are shaded with depth starting from her helmet down to her panties and to her metal folding chair.
The only visible defects that can be seen under strong light will be the joint lines in the middle of her long hair. Beside that, this is a perfect figure.
This item is purchased locally at Berjaya Times Square. One of the reasons of me buying this is that how I wish I had a "Saki" who does not mind having an otaku boyfriend. :P
