Introduction
Aquarius
Camus is a short-live character who only appears twice in Saint Seiya TV series. He was the
mentor to Crystal Saint and therefore something of a hero to Cygnus Hyoga. He seems to be on
Athena's side, but due to his oaths of loyalty to the leader of Sanctuary cannot act openly
in her behalf. He made his first appearance at Zodiacal Palace Libra to test his grand
pupil, Cygnus Hyoga. Camus demonstrated the power of a gold saint and clearly shown to Hyoga
that in order to defeat any gold saints, Hyoga must attain the seventh sense, the highest
achievement of a saint’s cosmos. Hyoga ended failing his test. He froze Hyoga in an ice
coffin by knowing well that Hyoga could not acquire the required seventh sense at his
current state. Of course, the stubborn grand disciple just could not give up and confront
Camus again in Aquarius Zodiacal Palace. For the last time, Camus demonstrated and taught
Hyoga his most powerful cold attack, Aurora Execution. Both Camus and Hyoga executed the
same attack in that duel but only Hyoga survived the confrontation. Camus ended up dead as
an ice Popsicle…

Comment
Aquarius Camus, the second Gold Saint release in this series subsequent to Leo Aioria,
comes packaged in a 'book-box'. It opens to reveal that it consists of two window boxes; in
one window box is a really well articulated figure of Camus, along with some of his cloth
parts while the other half contains the rest of his Gold Cloth and Aquarius Object parts.
The following are the parts count and items in bold are made of metal:
- Left Tray: 1 Camus figure, 1 chest armor, 1 diadem, 2 arm guard, 2 arm band, 2 thigh guard, 2 leg guard, 8 extra hands (2 fist, 2 chop, 2 tight grip, 1 loose grip, 1 double hand clasp)
- Right Tray: 2 shoulder, 2 side skirt, 2 pcs belt, 1 front skirt, 1 rear skirt, 1 base, 2 frame (Aquarius arm), 1 frame (main support) , 1 pitcher, 1 extra Hyoga head
- Additional Item: 1 4-pages color instruction manual, 1 mantel
In overall, I am a bit disappointed with its quality where I am expecting this follow-up release, if not better, to be equal to Leo Aioria. The expected improvements are not implemented and the quality of design is, safe to say, regress to the bronze saints’ level.
The design of Aquarius Object is good enough with the usual precision and the paint job is done nicely. The Object construction is simple, which made by putting on the armor pieces on a stand with a round base. Two extra pieces of object parts, given as arms of Aquarius, are adjustable to hold a pitcher over her head.
It is again frustrating to see the known problems on the object design, eliminated on its prior release, re-appear again here. For example, the joints are plated, which it will worn and loosen over time. The rear-skirt armor falls off easily and the Aquarius’s pitcher has an obvious mould line straight in the middle from end-to-end. It is saddening to see such a good design marred by these simple flaws, which differentiate a cheap toy and a collector’s item.
The Gold Cloth in armor mode is hefty and beautifully plated in paler gold and yellow ochre. The re-creation of the armor is as seen in the anime and stylish. The pair of large shoulder armor (made of plastic) is connected to the breastplate via a tiny catch. Both catch are foreseeable to wear off over time (Again I am frustrated on why Bandai is not re-using Leo design!). The back of the breastplate holds two holes for the mantle to snap-in. The mantle is made of nylon cloth and donned onto the armor by plugging in with its two plastic connectors.
Camus figure uses the same body design to its prior releases, which warrant a good degree of mobility. The long hair is separated into 3 sections with 2 flaps, moveable backward and up but not allowing it to sway left or right. This is again demonstrate a stupid design that does nothing much, unlike Dragon Shiryu’s. The front portion of his hair is detachable to fit his diadem. The facial sculpting of Camus is completely out but the complementary Hyoga’s head has a much better look than the previous Cygnus Hyoga.
In summary, there are nothing much to lose by not having this in your inventory unless you are a Saint Seiya’s fans. This figure is purchased via preorder online from Hobby Link Japan.
