Story
Unicorn Jabu was Seiya's main rival during the initial training under the Graude Foundation when they were youngster. He won his Cloth in Algeria and the armor is said to contain a weapon of power in its horn. The power is yet to be seen. He is totally a devoted lap dog to Saori. He dropped out of the plotline shortly after being beaten in the ring by Andromeda Shun, not to reappear until much later as one of the extras protecting Saori during the re-taking of the Sanctuary.

Knowing the fact that the 12 Gold Saints is nearly complete it releases, Bandai again tried squeezing out extra blood from collectors by slotting in 2 more Bronze Saints before the last 2 Gold release. I really hate it when Bandai pulling something like this. It is like watching a filler episode in an anime. However, it is again quite irritating that Bandai manage to make this release a notch above the average bronze saints making this item to be considered for collection.

Packaging
The package is the same box design that split open in the middle revealing 2 windows; in one window box is an extra large figure of Jabu, along with some of his cloth parts while the other half contains the rest of his Unicorn Cloth and Object parts.

The following are the parts count and items in bold are of metal (bold underline is for partially made of metal):

Left Tray
  • 1 figure (purple)
  • 1 helm
  • 2 arm guard
  • 2 thigh armor
  • 2 knee cap
  • 2 leg armor
  • 1 wig (for wearing circlet)
  • 1 hair fringe (for full helm)
Right Tray
  • 2 shoulder plate
  • 1 chest armor
  • 1 circlet
  • 1 belt with rear skirt armor
  • 1 crotch pad
  • 4 hands (2 grip, 2 hold)
  • 1 frame

The package also comes with a color instruction manual.

Object
The object is faithfully recreated from the anime representing the constellation of Unicorn. The design is basic with a frame to house the armor parts together. All four limbs detachable to slot in the armor parts. All four limbs connected via pin joints and moveable. However, without articulation on the knee, the movable limbs do not serve much purpose.

The object comes with additional circlet for its head.

The color of Unicorn Cloth comes in silver blue pearl. I am a bit disappointed with its finishing. The usual bronze saints come in shinny armor but this Unicorn comes in matt finish. This makes it look more like a toy than an elegant piece of collectibles.

Figure
The figure body comes as a surprise to me. I am assuming the standard PVC body as in previously released Bronze and Gold Saints but Bandai is giving the Final Bronze body for this. Ever since Final Bronze Pegasus Seiya was released, I always hope that Bandai will provide the new body for the coming Gold Saints. This hope is never realized and I keep consoling myself that the new body is a sole privilege to Final Bronze figures.

Jabu is just another extra in the show that has much lesser than an hour of appearance in the entire TV series and Bandai is granting Unicorn Jabu the new body while none of the Gold has. For crying out loud, this is unfair! Again, this proves another obvious disgusting marketing ploy to squander more fans money!

The head sculpt is good and maybe too good. My impression of Jabu, young Saori lapdog, is never this smart looking. Ironically, the sculpting is much better than the initial release of Pegasus Seiya at about 2 years ago. His hair is removable and the additional fringe is put on for donning his full helm. Another spare hairpiece is given to wear his circlet.

Armored Figure
The armor design is in accordance to the anime. None of the previously release bronze saints ("New Cloth" design) comes with thigh armor but this has. The proportion is pleasingly right and sleek. The only downsize is the color as I mentioned before. It will be classy if Bandai kept the color to shinny armor instead of flat silver blue.

Unicorn Jabu wear a full helm but additional circlet is provided for the manga version.

Conclusion
I have mix feelings on this release. I do not think this is an item to die for but the new body is tempting. I am considering swapping his body with other figure for display (possibly Leo, Scorpio, Cancer, Wyvern and Capricorn who has a blue body).

This item is pre-order online via HLJ.
