The second release in Bandai's ever popular 'Soul of Chogokin' series of Evangelion mechs is the EVA-02. Like the previous release, it is solid and has quite a heft to it. What makes this chogokin piece so special is its incredible posability. Cunningly designed to overcome limitations of die-cast, this is truly an 'action' figures, with joints just about everywhere, allowing you to put your EVA into just about any pose you might think of. Even its feet are jointed so that you can bend them for a realistic crouch.

Beside the super-jointed robot, included in the package are a positron rifle, progressive knife, pallet rifle, bazooka, smash hawk, 3 entry plugs, and a cool base on which to display the EVA and all its accessories. Some simple construction is required to setup the base but it is not explained clearly in the color manuals.

The paint job is average comparatively to the earlier release of EVA-01. Different shade of metallic red is clearly visible between the plastic and metal parts. I was put off from procuring this figure after seeing the obvious difference at one of the local shop. The paint job was horrible at initial batch release and I do believe Bandai has received numerous complains and somehow make certain re-adjustment to the later batch, where the color difference improved to an acceptable level.

The figure share many similarities with EVA-01 especially on its arms and legs. However, the similarities ended there. The head sculpt is completely different, simpler and oval. It has four eyes, and a moveable jaw to depict EVA-02 in normal and critical state. Color scheme used is less fancy, a simple yellow on red. There has no additional armor on chest and shoulder joint as in EVA-01. EVA-02 comes with a bundle of weapons and accessories and although, EVA-02 shares some common accessories with EVA-01, Bandai does throw in some signature weapons such as Positron Rifle and Smash Hawk.
