Lambor, also known as Sideswipe in US, was
always a Lamborghini. However, Hasbro and Takara did
not manage to get the license to re-produce a
Lamborghini transformer, so chosen an alternate
form, a Dodge Viper SRT-10. This is somewhat amusing
where a Transformer named Lambor who is a Viper now.
Part of the goal of Binaltech is to recreate a real life vehicle as accurate as possible while retaining its ability to transform. The earlier release, Smokescreen when in vehicle mode, the similarity to the actual vehicle is almost complete and not forgetting the same objective in Lambor. However, there are a couple of touches, where I prefer not to be there, do make it less "real" comparing to its predecessor.
The reason behind the inclusion of these small touches by Takara / Hasbro is bewildering, where the following details do really give away Lambor identity as an Autobot.
- The tires have "Cybertronian" word on them.
- Behind the passenger and driver seats, in the middle is an Autobot symbol.
- The license plate has the letters "SIDE SWP" with an Autobot symbol in between the two syllables.
One of the weaknesses of the Smokescreen toy was the ability to chip the paint off the metal parts. The same can happen here if you're not careful. The most vulnerable part seems to be the hood piece. Be careful with the leg pieces scraping up against it when you're posing or transforming him as this can scratch paint off.
When I was a kid, I do once own a Generation One Sideswipe, which was regrettably lost after a short week of ownership. Although Generation One Sideswipe was re-issue by Takara recently, I just could not get myself to buy another one owing to the toy like quality of Transformer, which no longer impress me as an adult now. I perceive this Binaltech release of Lambor is a second chance for me to make up the losses. In overall, Lambor is an impressive release but doesn't overwhelm me as much as Smokescreen did.
Purchase this from Low Yat Plaza.
