This is the Takara version of Transformers Cybertron
where the series is known as Transformers Galaxy
Force in Japan. The figure is denoting as GD-03
means the third Destron figure release of this
series. The package comes with Starscream package in
vehicle mode.
There are 2 version of Transformers from 2 different manufacturers, Takara (Japan) and Hasbro (US). Both manufacturers’ releases are almost identical but then the pricing has a huge gap. Owing to the price gap, I collect mostly from the US version. I got curious and I bought this Starscream for comparison. I am in shock with the huge difference of the US and Japan version. It is differences that one cannot be notice without opening the box. Firstly, the quality of the Japan version is much better than the US. Japan version has a very solid feel and there are not loose joints on it. The paint job is precise and complete comparing to some missing paint job found on the US version. In overall, the figure looks less toy-like comparing to the US version.
Packaging
Another difference between US and this version is the
packaging. The figure comes packaged in vehicle mode in a
cut out windowed box. The box is easily opened and the
content can repackage for safe keeping in ease. Beside the
Starscream figure, it comes with a Force Chip, 1 translucent
purple missile, instruction manual and ID card.
Figure
The figure in robot mode is in overall good. It comes
with good enough details to make this guy everybody’s
favorite baddy. It is only the articulation is slightly
disappointing where the entire figure has no ball-joints.
Its upper body is stiff with minimal articulations and the
lower body is only slightly better where it comes with legs
can spread open in a limited way. The Force Chip is inserted
to the rear to activate its Vortex Blade by spring
mechanism.
Starscream's vehicle mode is a futuristic jet. It is detailed and in a way stylish. The Force Chip can be inserted at the tail end to release its Vortex Blades. A missile pod is provided attached to the bottom side of the cockpit where its spring mechanism fires the provided missile.
Conclusion
This is a solid release from Takara where it qualified
be called a collectible rather than a toy as in Hasbro
version. Ever since I own this Galaxy Force Starscream, I
have stop buying Hasbro version of Transformers. This is
definitely a better figure but come at a cost to bear.
This item is bought from Sungai Wang.
