Introduction
Overcast is the long-lost brother of Jetfire and
has been a loner for many eons, refusing to get
involved in the conflict with the Decepticons.
Overcast had a change of heart after witnessing the
destruction of one of his favorite planets at the
hands of Unicron. He then realized that this battle
extends well beyond a simple conflict between
Autobot and Decepticon. He has since joined his
brother in battle against Megatron in order to avoid
the potential revival of their common enemy. Like
Jetfire, Overcast is a fast and powerful warrior
whose impressive skills have served the Autobots
well during battle with the Decepticons.
- Cool Autobot action figure changes from
shuttle to robot and back; features awesome
electronic battle sounds and snapping capture
claws!
- Comic book and collector card included.
- Requires 2 “AAA” batteries (not included).
- Figure comes with instructions.
Comment
I have been hunting for a pair of Energon
Transformers to powerlinx. Originally intended to
get a Jetfire or Rodimus but since I am late in
collecting, there is not much choice for me in the
market. I manage to locate and bought it at a local
shop (Graffiti Toys, Berjaya Times Square) along
with an Energon Ironhide.
This item come package in a box with a cut out
windows to display Overcast in vehicle form. The
package also includes 1 missile and a translucent
red rifle tied to the box with a product catalog cum
comic book. I also have the usual Energon ID Card
and a 1-page instruction sheet. The toy is secure to
the box via numerous twisted wires, which I found
tedious to pack and re-pack this item for
safekeeping.
This toy is a repaint of Energon Jetfire with its
primary colors in white and blue. Overcast in
alternate form is some form of a space shuttle. It
comes with 4 small wheels that work as landing gear,
a claw that does nothing and 4 moveable rocket
thrusters. His rifle can attach to the bottom of the
cockpit and shoot out a missile provided via spring
mechanism. There are two triggers to shoot out the
missile. First, it will be the normal button on top
of the rifle. Second, it is done via a button on the
top of the shuttle cockpit. The button somehow
connected to the rifle trigger when it is attached
to the shuttle.
Please note that Hasbro version of Overcast comes
with some obvious missing paint application. It is
spotted on one side of its booster and one side of
its ventilation at the rear with the silver paint
missing. It is funny seeing Overcast with paint job
missing on one side and on the other. If I have
spotted this earlier, I will not have bought this
item.
Overcast in robot mode generally is a let down.
Although, it comes with an ample amount of
articulation, its waist and head does not move. This
really limits its capabilities to pose. It has
ball-jointed elbows and the standard click-joint
hips. It has a spring claw at his chest but it
serves no purposes. Head sculpt again is a big let
down maybe because of the dirty white paint it is
using. I really do not like it. Moreover, the head
is fixed pose connected to a square piece that does
not rest properly on its chest. It does come with
sound effect but it is nowhere as interesting as
Energon Ironhide is. Pressing the head down give a
lame transformation sound and that is all for robot
mode. The second sound gimmick, equally lame, is
triggered when powerlinx with another Energon
Autobots. This sound gimmick requires 2 AAA
batteries, which are not included.
Overcast in powerlinx mode is neither impressive.
It looks bad as the top of a powerlinx figure and it
is not too stable when it becomes the lower portion.
I think he is a wrong match to powerlinx with
Ironhide since Overcast is supposed to be sleek and
yet Ironhide is bulky.
Conclusion
In general, Overcast is a letdown repaint release of
Jetfire. I will not have bought this if I have been
given more choices.
