This is another interesting release from Max
Factory featuring a 1/8 scale completed figure of
Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury video game series.
The figure is standing at about 24 cm tall with
Mai in her fiery red ninja outfit and a nice black
oval display base. As in the usual Max Factory
quality, the figure comes with a splendid paint
application. The coloring comes with good toning
especially the reddish skin tone that bring out
Mai's curvy body line. Head sculpt is stunning
featuring a sharp and slender complexion. The body
sculpting is excellent with tons of curves and a
very generous amount of expose flesh.
This is not perfect though and I did have some
complains on it. Firstly, it is Mai's tail ribbon.
It is painted in red but as far as I remember, it is
suppose to be in white. I do know that Mai's comes
with numerous outfit variations as she appear in
numerous video games such as Fatal Fury, Mark of the
Wolves, King of Fighters and Capcom vs. SNK. I
really could not confirm this is a wrong coloring or
one of her outfit variation.
The paint application is superb but the quality
control is slightly sloppy on this release. Paint
run is spotted on the crotch area and the both arm
bands. Mold lines are spotted on both side of her
legs, thigh, hair and both arms. Although it is not
too serious, this is highly unlikely coming from a
Max Factory product.
Mold lines sometimes are acceptable but a joint
lines appearing on 5800-yen product is a big let
down. Those lines are spotted on her neck bone and
the joint from her jaw to the neck. At the rear,
there are 2 joint lines on her white collar.
On overall, this figure feature a very
interesting sculpt and good paint application but
comparing to prior releases such as
1/6 Belldandy and
1/6 Kasumi, Max
Factory is losing its grip on quality control.
