Story
Dangaioh: Hyper Combat Unit (1987) is an anime OVA series produced by AIC studios and released
in Japan in 1987 featuring mechanical designs by Shoji Kawamori (mecha designer of Valkyrie fighter
from Macross series), production direction by Masami Obari and animation direction by Hideaki Anno
(creator of Evangelion).
The story is about a group of 4 young people, Mia Alice, Lamba Nom, Rol Kran and Pai Thunder,
with various ESP abilities are told that they are the new weapon created by Professor Tarson. In
reality, they were all kidnapped and their memories erased. Together, they can control a new super
weapon/robot: Dangaioh. This is the story of how each discovers his/her past while being pursued by
the "Bunker", a space-based criminal conglomerate.
Comment
All this while, I have been ordering garage kit from the same online shop and I have no chance
to compare the quality of recast. In a recent trip to Hong Kong, I bought this and 2 other from a
shop in Mongkok area. I am impressed with the quality of these kits. I believe the casting is almost
like original where there are very little excess, the surface is smooth and no pinholes found! The
kit comes in a nice brown box with real 4R photo taped to the front. The instruction sheet is
provided and they do parts counting in front of you.
This kit is an easy kit where the quality itself demand little sanding. The parts fitting are
good enough. One minor complain that I have is this kit comes without sculpted eyebrows.
The challenges here are just 2 minor points. The first goes to painting the black linings on her
suit. It is not hard but it will be tedious. The second challenge is pinning her to a base and
considering the fact she is tiptoeing in her high heels, some thought is required in hiding the
pins. I am lazy in building bases and she forces me to build one for her.
The WIP or construction process can be found at “The
Making of 1/6 Mia Alice”.
