Story
Rain Mikamura is one of the characters in G-Gundam anime who possessed a wealth of talent and skill.
Among her many credits, she is a mechanic, an electronics expert, a doctor, and even (to some
degree) a fighter. She is Domon Kasshu's childhood friend. Rain is also the daughter of one of the
scientists responsible for building the Shining and God Gundam, as well as being on the Ultimate
Gundam project before it became Devil Gundam. Rain handles both the repairs to the Shining Gundam
when it has been damaged, as well as Domon's injuries if he is injured. She is a kind and caring
young woman and she worries constantly about Domon. Unfortunately, Domon often does not seem to show
too much affection for her, but will usually come running to her rescue should anything happen to
her. Rain is not to be underestimated because she is female, either. While she is not as good of a
fighter as the rest, she can still pilot the Shining Gundam in Domon's absence, and then later gets
the Rising Gundam, which she is able to handle better.
Comment
This is a 1/8 scale figure kit of Rain Mikamura. When I got this kit, I am a bit shock of the
small size and number of parts. It give me the idea that this kit is smaller than my other
1/8 Rei Ayanami Race Queen. However, this is quite a large once it
built up. It stands at about 21 cm tall and almost the height of a 1/7 kit.
I really like the casting of this kit. The resins are
crisp and cleanly cast. The details are plenty and sharp. Mold lines are almost nowhere to be found
and the fitting is precise. This is by far the best casting of all the resin kit that I currently
owned.
Building this kit is not that easy. It has tons of
details that require good enough hand painting skill. Some areas are just not practical to airbrush.
There are some challenges identified on building this kit.
- Her eyes are relatively smaller than other 1/8 scale
kit. Rain Mikamura is sculpted to have a mature look, thus her eyes is much smaller than a usual
anime kit.
- She has many details that require hand painting.
(Dress zipper, belt buckle, hand gun and gun belt)
- Both sleeves of her jacket are not molded in a
single piece and require putty work. The real challenge lay on re-sculpting and sanding her
sleeves that comes with tons of creases.
- There is a gap behind her dress. This requires
putty, sand and re-paints midway of final assembly.
Painting is strictly following the original color scheme
but flat red for her dress is too dull. I am adding a slight twist of color to spice things up.
Instead of the usual flat red, I am putting on metallic red on her dress. Painting her dress
metallic comes with another problem. White boot does not really go well with it. I initially planned
for a dark brown leather boots and later cancel off that idea. It deviates too much from the
original character design. Instead of the normal white, I am painting "Gundam White" on it.
Since this lady is sculpted with a mature look, make-up
is unavoidable. I am using blue eye shadow as to contra her redness. Even her lipstick is using a
whiter tone of red.
