Comment
The quality of plastic is not as good as compared to some other HG model I own. I will give a lower rating to the snap fit department. In overall, this kit is almost as good as a HG should be but somehow the arm and leg thruster area does have some gaps when fitted together. Hmmm.... Design flaw?

Sanding and puttying is necessary on the mentioned gaps. I keep it a practice to glue and sand every piece of HG kit. This kit pose much steadier than the FG Zaku but I still stuff some blue tack to the feet for an added security.

One of my biggest complain is that the neck of this kit is way too long. At a certain angle, it look like the head is floating on top of its chest. Well, any experience modeler could do a neck operation on it and too bad that I am not one of them at this point of time.

Packaging

  • 4 plastic trees. 1 water transfer decals, 1 polycaps.
  • Plastic molded in a 4 colors. Painting is recommended to make this kit more presentable.
  • Plastic quality is below average for a HG. Seam lines, holes and plastic excess is visible.
  • Some pictures on the box and a 14 pages manual. (including RX-79[G])

Weapons, Gimmicks and Accessories

  • 1 machine gun
  • 1 bazooka

Owing to the size of it and limited shoulder room on the kit, the bazooka cannot be pose in any interesting way. No Zaku's "Heathawk" Axe in this box set! (It only comes with the standalone version of HG Zaku II.)

Construction Note
Painting is easy on this kit. Most of the parts are easily painted. The color for this kit can be easily be obtained from Tamiya thus paint mixing is minimal.

This is my first kit that are paneled with artist oil. Oil paint is a mess to clean-up but it is worth doing it as oil paint give me the best result in paneling.

Color. Flat Green:White 7:3, Deep Green, Flat Black. Dark Grey

Lesson Learned

  1. Panel line with artist oil is the way to go.

In brief
Overall a good kit to build. I think Bandai is a bit careless in the design as some gaps is visible on the limbs. Zaku fans should get one of these.
