Comment
I was quite bored with the HG line of kits after making so many of it and all of them is
pretty much standard in its construction but somehow this kit is different. This is the Gouf
Custom and one of my favorite HG mech and already marked as a must have in my collection in
the early day. I bought and kept this kit for a year and I am saving the best for the last,
with the believe that I do not want to waste this kit for my pathetic early day modeling
skill. I have never regretted buying this kit and so far, this is one of the very few HG
that I really enjoy making.
The proportion is well done and the articulation is very good. Plastic is molded in the correct color with the exception on the shield and the Gatling gun.

Construction Note
I am quite please with the quality and design of this kit. Minimal sanding is required
and most parts are design to ease painting. Masking is minimal. Unlike the other HG kits, I
do not see that I need to paint certain parts first and then continue the assembly on this
kit. This kit is test fitted and then disassembles for gluing, sanding and then prep for
painting.
I intended to give this mech a weathered / dirty look so I use max technique for pre-shading. All parts is sprayed with dark gray as base coat then highlighted with white. The torso is painted with flat blue and the limbs with a thin layer of sky blue.
The hardest challenge for this kit is to paint the shield. Owing to the complex design of Gouf shield, I find airbrushing is too tedious. I have to rely back on my old paintbrush and hand painted the shield with gunmetal, flat blue and sky blue.
I tried to make some tonal effect on the main attraction of Gouf, the Gatling gun. The layer of white highlight on dark gray base coat is sprayed on the gun unevenly with some section with a thick layer of white highlight to no highlight at all. I use a much thinner paint (Paint : Thinner - 1:2) for the actual color (Dark Gray : Gun Metal - 1:1). The result looks good and I learn something new.
The sword, backpack, chest, knee and feet are painted with black. The hands and thruster
is left at dark gray.
The Gatling gun, sword and the metal frame on the shield are clear coated with Tamiya clear
for a gloss effect while the rest of the parts is clear coated with a flat mixture (clear :
flat base - 3:1).
I used a thicker mixture of black oil paint for panel lining so that when I wipe off the excess of the paint, the left over paint will complements nicely with the weathered look.
