The reason of purchasing this kit is that I have fed up with hand brushing white. My preference towards bad guy mechs, an internal skeleton system and the only white I can see is on the mouthpiece plays as the main weightings on my procurement decision.

Even though, I had not watched the G-Gundam TV series at the point of purchase, I think the design is cool. I like this kit much more after watching G-Gundam. I do not want to spoil the story. All I can say is that Tohofuhai is actually not a bad guy. In my opinion, he plays a respectable Gundam Fighter character in the plot, whose intention is good but has chosen the wrong path. Watch until the final few episodes and you will know what I mean.

The proportion is very well done for this kit as compare to the 1/100 HG kit. This model looks slimmer and balance. The result is a cool lean mean looking machine.

The main attraction is that this kit employs an internal skeleton system or "Action Frame". It can do human-like pose such as performing a high kick but with the external armor off. Once the armor is attached, it is restricted to a puny low kick. Well, I guess we can't have both look and mobility.

Action frame means a very generous degree of movement on the four limbs. The limbs and torso uses screws to ensure a very firm joint. Articulation is excellent and this is the precious few, which pass my “mecha crouch” test.

As my first master grade, I am very impress with its quality. MG is a bit expensive for a model but I think it is well worth the money. This kit is extremely easy build and to paint. Multicolor parts are all molded in separate pieces.

I am impressed with the quality of design of this kit. For the typical HG, 1/144 or 1/100, I make a standard practice to glue the parts together to eliminate seams and gaps. To my amazement, I did not use a single drop of glue on this kit. I find no reason to do so.

The external armor is snap on and can be taken off to show internal skeleton. The seams are well hidden under the panel line.

In overall this kit is excellent but not without problem. The biggest complain I have is that the wing shield is too heavy. The completed model has a hard time on the "one leg standing" pose with its wing shield attached. Secondly, its wing shield cannot be unfolded to form a cloak, as seen in the anime. I just can't see why this feature is excluded while it exists in the HG version.

Packaging

  • 10 plastic trees. 1 rubber tree. 1 wet transfer decal, 1 polycaps. 3 packs of screws
  • Plastic molded in 7 colors. Painting is optional.
  • Plastic quality excellent
  • Some pictures on the box and a large 16 pages manual.

Weapons, Gimmicks and Accessories

  • Action Frame! Enough said.
  • 1 set of transparent red palm,
  • 2 sets of rubberized palm
  • 1 rubberized fist
  • 1 transparent red master cloth
  • 1 transparent red shinning finger (for Shinning Gundam)
  • 1 wire for arm extension pose
  • 1 Master Asia "Tohofuhai" figure

This is supposed to be a Gundam Fighter so the only weapon is one piece of Master Cloth molded in transparent red.

Construction Note
What I did to this kit is that I build the entire internal skeleton first and then snap on the external armor. Color is molded correctly but the scheme is too anime. I prefer the darker color scheme as shown on the box.

I encounter some problems with the screws. Firstly, those screws had to be screw-in properly or otherwise the cover plastic could not fit in properly. Once the screws are in place, it is extremely difficult to undo.

Color used. Blue:Black 5:3, Blue:Black 4:6, Flat Red, Flat Yellow, Dark Grey, White.

All parts are hand-brushed with Tamiya acrylic. I feel a little bit disappointed, as I do not own an airbrush at this time to give this excellent kit the best. I rant I have is that I could not seal this kit without an airbrush. This kit pose around a lot and the paint job is easily scratched off.

This is supposed to be a tournament fighter so no weathering and panel lining is done.

Test Fit. Parts taken out for hand brushing. Parts Re-assemble after painting.

In brief
This is an excellent kit in articulation owing to the new action frame system. If you like bad guy mech, this is a must have.
