Comment
I think I could consider myself as a Zaku fan and having the standard green Zaku is
never enough for me. The reason I am buying this kit is owing to the thought that it will be
cool when I pair this kit with my other Green Zaku for some great photos. Zaku never operate
alone. There are always a commander and a “shoot me” lackey.
I could not lay my finger on it but the proportion looks slightly funny. It just does not seem right to me.
I really do not enjoy building this kit. The quality is laughable in comparison to the newer releases of MG models. Most plastic parts does not joint nicely together without some form of gaps and steps here and there. This kit requires a lot of sanding and puttying and I was quite let down by it. In the entire construction process, rather than lifting my chest up and proudly proclaims that I am working on an original Bandai Master Grade model, the feel was more towards building some pirated kit. I just wanted to get over it quickly and do not even bother to sand properly.
Panel lines are aplenty and details are commendable. Additional detailing parts are included but it is undocumented thus you have to hunt for the right place for the additional detailing parts by string at the photos in the manual.
Although this is a MG, articulation is still below expectation. The upper torso has a good degree of movement but the lower torso is as moveable as a piece of brick. The waist is immovable and the skirt armor is always in the way.
The plastic color is definitely out since the color is too bright and shinny to my taste. I could not help but to paint this kit.

This kit provides the following variation in its construction.
- Head can be constructed in two versions of commander type antenna style (as seen in TV series or in movie) and in basic mass production type (for those who wish to repaint this kit into the standard Zaku).
- Can be constructed as space type or ground type.
Construction Note
Originally, I intended to rush this model out for the Newtype Asylum Modeling Contents
on November 2002. I cancelled the idea in midst of painting as I could not possibly make it
in time. It has been put on hold since then. It finally completed after 2 months of delay.
As mentioned, this kit comes with options to construct into different Zaku variations. I choose to construct this kit as a ground type as seen in TV series.
The standard construction technique is applied here. (Glue, sand, and putty) Since this is the very first release of Master Grade model, the overall quality and design is horrible in comparison to today standard of Master Grade model. I have test fitted this model and then disassemble it for painting.
Painting process is divided into 2 phases. On the first phase, the torso is painted with Hull Red and Flat Black. I tried pre-shading but the effect is covered by the actual color. It then clear coated and panel lined using oil.
Weapons are painted with a layer of dark grey and then clear coated.
The limbs are pre-shaded using dark grey as base coat then white for the highlight. The top coat is painted with custom mix of paint; Flat Red : Flat Yellow : Flat White (1:1:2). The paint is further diluted with clear coat (1:1). The result is very subtle. A layer of clear coat is applied.
Paneling is done using oil paint. Water Slide Decals and Dry Transfer Decals are applied
as the finishing touches.
